Our Thursday nights won’t be the same without our weekly class with Janina.

For the past six weeks, Janina and team (aka Kala and Pepper) have helped teach me the tools to better handle my adorable, energetic rescue dog Izzy. Over the last three years, I’ve tried various techniques to put an end to Izzy’s bad behaviours such as jumping up, pulling on the lead, stealing balls etc. I decided it was time to get some one-on-one in-house training, so gave Fun4Dogs a call. Janina’s approach is different to others. She doesn’t encourage choker chains, water pistols or starving your dog so they respond to treats. Instead, she encourages positive body language and a calm, relaxed attitude. It’s such a simple concept, yet one that we don’t consider when trying to tame an unruly dog! I didn’t expect Janina to solve ‘our’ issues overnight, that would be unreasonable. However, she taught me practical techniques that when utilised regularly, have made a noticeable difference. Izzy no longer jumps up, shoving me into the wall whenever I arrive home. She walks beside me when I am focussed and I am doing what I am supposed to. She is much better at sharing the ball with me when I ask for it, but most importantly, her recall is improving daily. The biggest lesson that Janina taught me was to relax. Izzy will always gravitate towards the best energy at the park. By always worrying about others and trying to keep Izzy well behaved, I gave off a stressed energy. No wonder she avoided me at the park! As soon as I relaxed and enjoyed my time at the dog park, Izzy began approaching me to play with her!

A lovely bonus to the training was becoming friends with Janina and her gorgeous four-legged girls.

Our Labrador Jazzy was seven when we began attending Fun4Dogs classes.

Jazzy had some issues with socializing with other dogs, and had begun to express signs of dominance and aggression. We used to dread walking her because we were so worried about coming across other dogs.

From our very first lesson, Janina has been so positive and helpful in teaching me and my mom how to understand Jazzy better, by reading her body language and recognizing when she is reacting negative to a situation.

Now, attending Fun4Dogs classes is Fun4People too! We learn new things every lesson and Jazzy continues to rapidly improve.
